How big is the Universe?
This is absolutely amazing. Really sparks images and thoughts in the brain and i have many times thought of the complexity of the expanded and internal universe. Like the Hermetic saying “As Above, So Below”

Do the things external which fall upon thee distract thee? Give thyself time to learn something new and good, and cease to be whirled around. But then thou must also avoid being carried about the other way; for those too are triflers who have wearied themselves in life by their activity, and yet have no object to which to direct every moment, and, in a word, all their thoughts.Marcus Aurelius
I am reminded of life as a journey, and how we busy ourselves with nothing or with something; and it is our desire to be good at something and yet if we keep changing our minds and running after this or that and never deciding on the path to take we will end up with nothing of value, no skill, no purpose and no meaning. We have people who strive for pleasure and are distracted by the next shiny object or whim and never get to become good at anything in themselves. We have the knowledge seeker who wants to find the perfect opportunity or knowlege in books and keep ready and reading never to arrive at anything meaningful or a venture worth focusing on.
These words of Marcus Aurelius nearly 2 thousand years ago reminds me of a true piece of advice that carries so much wisdom. It is what we struggle with today, what I struggled with for many years but finally had the clarity to appreciate. Don’t be distracted by everything and thus be someone who does nothing, but find something you can be good and proud of, learn something; but don’t waste your time searching endlessly as opportunities are all around.
To find purpose in something to direct your thoughts in every moment is the secret to happiness, longevity and success in your life. If we spend our moments in purpose we tend to be happy, healthy and confident and all the small things that supposedly get us down become unimportant.
Let’s live in the moment and direct our thoughts to engineering our life!
Here is an interesting spin on things from one of my favorite authors, Robert Anton Wilson. The story of Santa being a real villain and some version of the explanation by the author of the post. Interesting and enlightening, if you have the time to read of course…

Good Eating Starts Today. Got all the right stuff at Publix this evening – the challenge has started.
December 2011: Update
I think the slow carb diet is pretty easy to follow, although once gets tired of the beans, really! Being South African we mostly enjoy salads and lean meat (some like it extra fatty) and putting beans in your body like the Mexicans do gets tiring. I tried eating out like Tim Ferris suggests by visiting local Spanish/Mexican restaurants and trying Burittos etc. but really hard to get used to. Mexican food frankly sucks as far as I am concenred. Stick with a medley of vegetables, lean meats and salads. The only thing to watch out for is excessive salt, fat and sauces or dressings that are unhealthy.
After trying the slow carb diet for a few months, all I can say is it’s okay, not really maintainable. Stick with the healthy food. Honestly, it is easier to heave grilled meats like chicken or steak, mixed vegetables and salad. There ya go, and it will be cheaper. At the end of the day, it’s all just about discipline and eliminating the bad stuff we put with perfectly normal food.
Good luck and happy eating, oh pig out once a week at least, that I do agree with
